Safety

Safety is in your hands

Woodworking can be dangerous. At Valley Woodworkers of West Virginia, we take safety very seriously.

You must read, understand and follow all safety procedures while working in the clubhouse. (Yes, you will be tested.)

Why is Safety Important

Prevents severe injuries: Woodworking machinery like table saws, bandsaws, and routers can cause permanent, life-altering injuries such as amputations, deep lacerations, and puncture wounds in a fraction of a second.
Saves money and materials: Safe operations prevent costly damage to expensive machinery, ruinous mistakes on project wood, and massive medical expenses or insurance spikes.
Protects long-term health: Cutting, sanding, and drilling wood produces fine airborne dust that can damage lungs, trigger asthma, and increase the risk of certain cancers if proper ventilation and masks aren’t used. High-speed flying wood chips, broken blades, and kickback objects can cause instant blindness, while the continuous loud roar of shop machinery leads to permanent hearing loss without proper PPE.
